How You Can Help

There are a number of ways to get involved in the park or help promote the area's ecological integrity.
  1. If you are interested in participating in a new local group focused on naturalist activities in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park, email us at kawarthahighlands@hotmail.com.

  2. There are existing groups that promote conservation and low-intensity recreational activities in the Kawartha Highlands. For a list and contact information visit our Site Links.

  3. The Management Advisory Board and its subcommittees: An important element of the Kawartha Highlands Park legislation is the creation of a Management Advisory Board. The role of this Board is to advise the government on planning and management for the park. Also, it is expected that the Board will create subcommittees to develop recommendations on specific issues. Information on participating on the Board or its subcommittees can be obtained from the official park website at www.ontarioslivinglegacy.com.

  4. If you are a cottage owner in the area, get involved in your cottage association. Some cottage associations have a Stewardship Committee that focuses on environmental issues such as water quality and habitat protection. For cottage association contact information, email us at kawarthahighlands@hotmail.com.

  5. If you are a local resident, believe in the protection of Kawartha Highlands as a provincial park, and are interested in serving the broader needs of your community, consider getting involved in local government. Local municipal elections will take place November 2003. For information contact Connie Parent, Clerk of North Kawartha Township, at 705-656-4445 or Donna Barr, Clerk of Galway-Cavendish & Harvey Township, at 705-657-8883.
